MATRILINEAL KINSHIP DIAGNOSIS KIT (4 WORK STATIONS)

OBJETIVO

To establish the existence of matrilineal kinship between a son and two possible biological mothers by analysing part of the HVII hypervariable region of the mitochondrial DNA of the three individuals.

NIVEL EDUCATIVO

Can be adapted to O-level, A/AS-level, Science colleges and Universities.

TÉCNICAS

DNA electrophoretic analysis for each sample, which has been previously amplified by PCR and treated with restriction enzymes.

Staining and visualization of DNA bands.

Reading and comparison of different mtDNA sequences.

DURACIÓN DEL EXPERIMENTO

50-80 minutes plus an additional 50 minute practice session.

CONTENIDO DEL KIT

Each kit contains four work stations with all the necessary material and components to perform the experiments: racks, PCR amplified mitochondrial DNA samples for each individual, DNA for the positive and negative control, agarose gels, patented equipment for “easy” loading of gels, electrophoresis and staining solutions and printed mtDNA sequences.
